Sweating for the Wedding

After a holiday season full of overindulgence, exercise is one of the best ways to give yourself a makeover. I found a quick and easy circuit workout that is a great way to jumpstart those New Year’s resolutions and get you on track to feeling great before your wedding. The best thing about this workout is that there is no equipment required, making these exercises easy to do anywhere! Good luck!

Directions: Preform each exercise for one minute with a 10-12 second break in between each one. Repeat the circuit three times.

#1. Squats: Place feet slightly wider than should width apart. Keeping your chest up, bend your knees and stick your booty to the back of the room. Your goal is to make a 90 degree angle with your legs. Make sure that your knees don’t go past your toes on the way down.

#2. Lunges: Start with feet together. Step forward with your right foot then bend your knee creating a right angle with both legs. Again, try not to let your knee come too far forward past your toes. Bring your right foot back to meet your left then repeat the same motion stepping forward with your left leg.

#3. Pushups: These can be done on your knees or in the traditional pushup position. Place your hands on the outside of your shoulders, arms straight. Keeping a neutral spine (hips tucked in), bend your elbows bringing your whole body toward the floor. Straighten your elbows and return to the starting position.

#4. Plank: This can be done two ways, either on your elbows or in the pushup position extend your legs. Remain suspended in this position for one minute working up to two minutes.

#5. Seated Bicycle: Start in the sit up position, placing hands behind your head. Bring your right knee into your chest while extending your left leg straight out. Meet your left elbow and right knee in the center while twisting at the core. Switch arms and legs bringing your left knee to meet your right elbow. Repeat for one minute.

I hope you had a great workout! Remember, if you want to increase the intensity of your workout try adding 5-10 pound free weights or extending the duration of each exercise.  By combining this workout with 20-30 minutes of cardio at least 2 times a week you will surely be on your way to looking and feeling fabulous for your big day!
